Some of the most important things in life are the most difficult to understand. Where did we come from, why are we here, and, of course, what the heck is “SEO”?

Search engine optimization they call it — because the more syllables it has, the more important it must be, right? No need to be intimidated, and you don’t need to be a web guru to apply a few simple techniques and instantly increase the web traffic to your website.

In the physical world, there are certain tangible tactics used to increase brand awareness: creating a logo, business cards, taglines, etc. Well, the same concept holds true in the digital realm, and the most iconic of these tactics is creating a website.

It is a place for you and all those who follow your business to call a digital home. But how do they find it? That’s where SEO comes in.

Every piece of content on a website is an investment in SEO, and thus should be curated accordingly. If you thought internet search engines — Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.. — scour the internet and display everything they find, you’d be wrong. Each engine is embedded with specific algorithms telling them to scan for specific keywords, phrases and relevant content, which are then displayed as “search results” to prospective clients. This means if your website is not relevant, or lacks the proper keywords, you’re probably buried in the findings.

Keywords are like breadcrumbs, leading your customer to find you when they are typing in phrases in search engines, such as, “Where can I find the best _______← your product or service.” There is not a day that goes by that many of you don’t “Google it!”  Well, your ideal customer needs to be able to Google you! Many of our clients do not even know what their keywords should be. This is where a keyword plan should come into play.

These algorithms are routinely updated, making it vital to keep up with a constantly shifting digital landscape. However, two things are ALWAYS scanned: a domains age – the older the better – and any backlinks. For every website that hosts a link to your website, SEO is increased. Post relevant content another site can use? Make sure they share the link! Have more than one company, and more than one site? Make sure they’re linked to each other, simple!

In addition, search engines are looking for relevant and UNIQUE content. So all those funny memes you’ve been sharing, or that YouTube video you thought captured your company image — irrelevant. Creating your own content is the only way to ensure you maximize the SEO of your specific site. Regurgitation is good, but fresh is simply the best.

Many business owners simply don’t have time to consistently create and curate fresh content. Luckily, there are companies that specialize in this to help, and, you guessed it, we’re one of them.
